Nihonga Americana

This series is using the technique of Nihonga mineral pigment painting, which uses natural ores (iwa-enogu), such as azurite (blue) and malachite (green), crushed to varying particle sizes. The granular, sandy pigments are then mixed with nikawa (animal glue), and then painted layer by layer on traditional washi paper or silk. This developing series explores modern day social problems and parodies them in narratives using symbolism of old Japanese Folklore.

Some pieces from this collection will be exhibited in the 2026 Seattle Art Fair. A solo exhibition is anticipated in the Summer or Fall of 2027.
